Collagen and the Skin

Collagen is extremely important for maintaining good skin and health. It also gives your skin strength and elasticity and provides the stable structures upon which your beauty is built.
This structural protein is so important that it makes up 75% of your skin’s dry weight. That’s why so much of the skincare conversation is about collagen in one way or another. It’s probably second only to moisture when you talk about the science of skin health, structure, and care.

Unfortunately for us gals, biologically it seems women’s bodies produce less collagen than men’s. Men’s skin is about 25% thicker than women’s skin thanks to androgens (i.e. testosterone), which yield a denser network of collagen fibres than that found in female skin. A man’s skin also thins gradually with age, whereas women’s skin thickness remains constant until about the age of fifty. After menopause, female skin will continue to thin significantly.

There are around 28 kinds of collagen in the body but the most abundant kinds of collagens are -Type I, Type II and Type III.

  • Type I: It is prevalent in tendons, bones, skin, connective tissue etc.
  • Type II: It is found mostly in cartilages.
  • Type III: Different organs and muscles contain these kinds of collagens.

Since it plays such a big role in our bodies overall health and appearance, it makes it even more important for us to do whatever we can to get our bodies producing as much collagen as possible!

Collagen Decline
Collagen production begins to diminish from about age 25 and continues – with decline increasing with each passing year. The physical signs of ageing in adults such as wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin are a result of that decrease in collagen.
Inadequate collagen production also reduces the skins ability to maintain elasticity and retain moisture.

The Bottom line: Collagen is the key to your skin’s health and appearance.
We can fight Collagen decline!
Yep! We CAN do something about it!

Collagen decline is a natural part of the ageing process so whilst we can’t stop it, we can definitely slow it right down, and some of us may even be able to reverse it.

The best thing we can do to fight collagen loss is getting regular professional treatments and use the right corrective products at home. And steering clear of collagen-killers such as smoking, too much sun, poor nutrition, stress and poor hydration will all help minimise the loss.

Immediate OR Gradual Improvements?
Yes! We all love and appreciate the quick and sometimes immediate results of cosmetic injections, many of which increase volume to the face the moment they are injected. However, most injections don’t improve the durability of the skin for long term benefits. When the dermal filler or anti-wrinkle toxin wears off, the skin returns to its original appearance or maybe even a little worse.

Our collagen Booster programs, on the other hand, work with a client’s natural growth factors to strengthen and add volume to the skin so that it is able to keep improving over time. You will NOT see immediate results after your first treatment, or after your first drink of the collagen peptides included in the programs, but your own skin will be increasing its production of collagen and elastin, which in turn will continually refresh damaged skin cells and regenerate newer, healthier tissues.

Professional Collagen Induction Therapy treatments, combined with active topical ingredients, HCP and improved lifestyle choices stimulate collagen production, altering how your skin responds to the ageing process, ultimately giving you a firmer, smoother and more youthful appearance!

For those that want the best of both worlds, a combination of cosmetic injections and a collagen-boosting program can achieve optimal results, with the immediate effects of injectables and the more gradual improvements from within as collagen reproduction increases.

We designed our Collagen Booster programs to keep skin looking young, healthy and glowing. They support healthy collagen production by giving you the right products and tools to really get that collagen plumping again! Both programs are designed to run over a 3 - 4 month period to stimulate long term collagen production.

By taking a holistic approach and addressing production decline from all angles, we are providing the building blocks needed to help your body produce healthy amounts of high-quality collagen, which cannot be achieved by topical or internal ingestion of collagen supplements alone.
